Members of the Guild are a self-selected group of people who are drawn to making and appreciating the fiber arts .We know the value of incorporating moments of beauty into our everyday lives.
With that in mind, I’m spending some time poring over an incredibly beautiful book from the GHG library: Fiberarts Design Book Five with commentary by Jan Janeiro and Jack Lenor Larsen, 1995.
What a buffet of visual treats! A few pieces I sampled on my first pass through this smorgasbord of design included
- A 3-d sculpture that looks like cast metal but is actually made of zippers
- An intricately pieced quilt that tells the story of St Anthony and his demons
- An exquisite abstract Kilim woven with colors that seem to vibrate
- Handmade Japanese paper bowls that are as delicate as an eyelash
I am left with this thought: creative imagination is a boundless and beautiful thing. We are lucky to be inspired by it and to express it ourselves.
Happy weaving and happy reading,
Dina
